Pasadena, CA  — The Department of Labor has reported that there were 255,000 fewer people on unemployment benefits at the end of May, bringing the number of unemployed getting benefits down to 4.46 million. Economists believe that this is because people who have been unemployed for more than six months are starting to fall off the unemployment benefits.

There is a group of economists who think that a lot of jobs are just not going to come back. They suggest that automation and outsourcing have replaced jobs such as administrative assistants and other office jobs that can be done on a computer. According to a growing consensus, such people need to retrain for new kinds of jobs.

Many unemployed people are planning to go back to college for getting certified in healthcare and education related jobs. However some job experts believe this may not work out for most people. The factors listed against this move are cost and job relevance. Even community colleges are expensive, and the much touted new jobs in healthcare require at least a year's experience in most cases. They think that instead of spending time and money on learning a new skill, most people would be better served trying to get a job in their current field if they are ready to move around.

And as per Hound, the nations' leading job search engine, there are still jobs aplenty for those seriously looking for them. The job site reported adding over 104,000 jobs in the last seven days alone.
