A manager that works in a sales company, for example, may not be limited to the training and supervision of the sales staff, directing of the goals and sales quotas for their products, and identifying and establishing territories for their company, but is also expected in the supervision of people from other branches from different locations. While their responsibilities include market analyses and representation of their companies in sales conventions and meetings for product endorsements, some of these managers may also have a word in product research and development as well as the recommendation and approval for its budget.




A sales manager occupation is essentially in determining what works and what doesn't with their products and services and making sure that these are implemented by their company to satisfy their customers while making a profit in the process.

On the other hand, manager employment in a construction company or any project-based company is often bound by specific processes and factors such as timeline, budget, and personnel. They coordinate with people with various expertise and stake with the project at hand such as designers, suppliers, client, and are in charge of a project's entire cycle from planning to execution. But similar to the basic functions of any regular manager, this type of manager is also responsible for the selection, hiring, and termination of people directly involved in the project.

Over 70 percent of manager jobs in the United States are held by men, and in the manufacturing and distribution industries, the salary range is the highest at $52,424 to $94,499. But then again, the annual salary may vary by industry, size of company, location, and applicant's qualifications. A manager occupation in the food service has a salary range of $45,006 - $79,383.




Experience/ Educational Requirements

Experience is also important in manager work. Thirty-two percent of managers today have 10 to 19 years of work experience while 23 percent have 20 years or more. Only 1 percent of these managers have 1 year of work experience which is obviously rare. Also, most companies are not strict with the academic background of their managers, with the exception of those which require special skills and expertise such as in construction, information technology, and financial or accounting companies or firms. These types of companies would sometimes need a master's degree for their supervisory or managerial positions.

A manager career can lead to higher positions such as director of operations which have a higher compensation and demands of work. A construction manager can later choose to become a contractor, while in sales companies the managers can rise up to the position of director of sales or company vice-president for operations. Anywhere one chooses to be, the responsibilities and qualifications may vary for a management position and their career projections.
