Pastry Cook

A pastry cook, also known as a pastry chef, specializes in making pastries and cakes. The pastry cook supervises and coordinates the activities of workers in a pastry shop to produce puddings, icings, and fancy pastries and develops new recipes. He or she also receives orders from customers and restaurants to prepare confections and sweets.

The pastry cook measures and mixes ingredients such as flour, flavorings, and fruit to create pastries. Pastry cooks usually decorate their pastries with icing designs using various tools. They continuously work to create new designs and recipes. Additionally, they inspect the pastry shop, baking equipment, and workers for cleanliness and ensure the maintenance of high quality standards.

Interested individuals can become pastry cooks if they think that they have an eye and taste for creating delicious confections. Training programs for pastry cooks are offered by industrial bakeries. A high school diploma and some experience are the minimal requirements for a pastry cook job, but having a degree in food science and specialized professional training is preferable.
