7 Things You Need to Check When You Want to Hire New Personnel
  1. Do You Really Need to Hire? Before you place the announcement for a vacancy, check out whether you really need to hire. Can you make do with what you already have? Can you promote internally and add a few of the main responsibilities of the job to those of an existing employee? A salary raise would provide enough incentive and this would be less than a new salary. This could be a good time to relook at the workload of your present employees and make some amendments.

  2. Decide Whether the Position Is Temporary or Permanent - Look carefully at the future plans of the company and department. Do you want to have another permanent position or will you be able to make do with a temporary hand?

  3. Make a Comprehensive List of the Job Description - The best candidate can be found only when the job description is done carefully and meticulously. This will help you (the recruiter) ask the right questions at interview time to ensure that the candidate chosen is the best fit for the job.

  4. Determine Salary and Benefits - Just as the job description is important so is determining the minimum and maximum salary and benefits attached to the particular job. The company should know how much the new employee would cost. It is worthwhile to compare your offer with the best in the market to obtain the best and most competitive range of payment.

  5. Send Feelers Through Networking - Some of the best recruitments are done through networking. Recommendations for a best-fit candidate often come through your own network providing you a person who not only is best matched to what you require but also who already are aware of the work culture and values of your company.

  6. Announce the Vacancy Both Internally and Externally - It is always a good thing to offer the new position for your existing employees as well. This will cost you less in orientation and training and even salary and benefits.

  7. Use Social Media Networks - Announce the new position through your social media networks, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and so on. Consider recruiting using your company website - this is often easier and less expensive; however, it does require a different skill set.
