  1. Show and Encourage Mutual Trust - If you want your team to perform at the peak of their efficiency they should feel trusted and valued. Trust is a very basic yet very powerful factor that will promote a healthy work culture among your team.

  2. Show Courage - As the boss, leader, and head of your team you should be not only the best but also ready to face problems squarely. Bosses who use scapegoats, or shirk from trouble will never earn the respect of their team. To get your team do their best you should show them how it is done.

Hence, wherever there is trouble and they are stumped, you should be able to step in and straighten things out with courage. Whether it is an irate customer, difficult deal, belligerent boss - you, as the boss, should have not only the courage to face it but also find a way to make the best of the situation.

  3. Make the Vision Come Alive - Believe in the vision of your organization and make it come alive for your team. The vision should be put in the simplest of terms so everyone understands it and through your enthusiasm and belief in it, it should come alive in the minds of your team. They should be driven by it every day.

  4. Connect with Your Team Emotionally - Your team consists of people, not machines that are programmed to perform at their best. It is very important that you keep this in mind. You need to connect with each one of your team and make them feel like their work place is like an extended family. Stand by them in their time of grief and cheer them when good things happen in their personal life.

Encourage a relaxed and friendly work culture. Insist that at least once a week there should be happy hours or coffee time where all staff get together for informal interaction. A friendly team can enhance productivity greatly, besides making the workplace a pleasant place to work.

  5. Appreciate Openly, Rebuke in Private - Let your praise be genuine and loud. Let everyone know you appreciate someone who works hard/smart and brings in results. Chastise in private however; let your team members know that you will not tolerate lies, deceit, and anything less than their best. Be fair yet firm when it comes to taking action against people who go against the principles and rules of the organization.
