Company History: The first ever European to set foot on Arkansas was Hernando De Soto, a Spanish explorer, in 1541. The state, along with the other parts of the Louisiana Territory was handed over to Spain in 1762. In order to encourage more settlers to come to the area, the governors offered no taxes and free land. The territory had 60,000 residents by 1836, enough for it to become a state. It was declared to be the 25th State after an acceptable constitution was written.

Arkansas entered the Civil War by deciding to secede from Union in May, 1861. For the next twenty five years, the state saw much recovery and growth. Cities, factories, farms and lumber mills all over the state were linked by railroads. Arkansas was called the “Land of Opportunity” even in 1875 in an active campaign to draw new residents to the state. After the Second World War, the state was in a drive to industrialize. This successfully helped balance agricultural and industrial production.

Firms in the state today produce a wide variety of items such as paper products, pulp, clothing, cosmetics, communication equipments, aircraft components, aluminum products and much more. In the last 500 years, the state has grown from being wilderness to a highly developed state with 2.5 million population.
