Chief Operations Officer

Situated at the senior-executive level in an organization, a chief operations officer (COO) is responsible for providing vision and management to organization-wide operations; planning and implementing organization-wide strategies and policies; achieving annual and longer-term revenue and profit objectives; establishing operations and human-resources management policies for the organization; overseeing the performance of all projects and managers; and overseeing the allocation of resources to project teams. The COO reports directly to the chief executive officer, or CEO.

Organizations may refer to this position by various names, including chief operating officer, executive vice president, chief administrative officer, and operations director, among others.
