Practice is the Key

Not all of us are comfortable speaking in front of a camera. Therefore, it is advisable that you practice a few mock interview sessions with someone before your actual interview. You need to build that confidence in front of a camera and present yourself professionally. You can record your trial sessions and watch your mock interviews to get a fair idea of what's expected in a video interview.

Do Your Homework

When you visit any company for a face to face interview, you prepare yourself. Similarly, you need to do some preparation before your online video interview. You can go online and research information about the company, the latest news or information about the industry and also prepare for answers to frequently asked interview questions.

Dress Right

Although this is not an in person interview, it is important that you dress right. Although this is an online interview, it does not mean you cannot wear casual attire. Wear formal attire, just like you would wear in a face to face interview. Remember, your first impression makes a difference.

Body Language

During an online interview, it is very vital that you maintain eye contact with the interviewer. You need to look into the camera in your laptop and not into the screen. Another very essential point is to avoid interrupting or over talking the interviewer. Ensure that you are a good listener. You first listen to the interviewer and then speak once he/she is done. Sit straight in an upright position and speak clearly. Don't fumble.

Avoid Distractions

You need to avoid distractions like door bells, mobile phones, other programs on your system, background noise, etc. You need to ensure that the interview is scheduled in a quiet and neutral space.

Be Attentive and Prepared

The very first thing an employer might check is your online profile and picture. Ensure that your profile and picture are professional. Remember that the interview can see you and your expressions. During an interview, don't make faces or give any negative expressions. Charge your laptop and ensure you have good internet connection, camera and a microphone.

Feel Confident

Online interviews are just like face-to-face interviews. Don't get nervous, and try to sound confident. If you are well-prepared, nothing can go wrong.

Follow these simple tips to ace an upcoming video interview. Good luck!
