About TSA: TSA had been created as a response to the attacks on September 11, 2001. John Magaw, the first agency administrator had been nominated in December, 2001 by President Bush. The agency changed over the time with policies being developed for protecting transportation in the country, specifically airport security and the prevention of airplane hijacking.

TSA has regional, local and state partners and it oversees the security for ports, pipelines, mass transit systems, buses, railroads and highways. However, the focus of the agency is aviation security. The agency is responsible for screening carry-on and checked baggage and passengers at 450 airports in the country. It works with the local police as well as other law enforcement agencies for reducing baggage theft.
