Job Description-Historical Archives Intern

PART TIME POSITION. 10-15 HOURS WEEKLY.

Davey is seeking a detail-oriented, highly organized and motivated individual to serve as an intern/archival technician who will assist with management of the company's historical archives collection.

Davey's archival collection is experiencing a growth period. A consistent stream of items is being submitted for inclusion in the collection. This individual's primary role is in helping to keep the archival collection submissions accessioned, organized and up to date.

In this role, this individual will assist the archives manager by receiving archival submissions, incorporating them into the collection, maintaining archival inventories, preserving collection items, processing research requests, digitizing select materials, and performing other duties related to archival operations as assigned. This individual must be capable of working alone for extended periods of time based on direction and guidelines provided by the archives manager. This is an in-person position located in Kent at Davey's corporate offices.

JOB DUTIES
Specific responsibilities and duties would include:

*Physically preparing items for inclusion into the collection. *Regularly updating and maintaining archival inventoryExcel shets to reflect new additions to the collection. *Maintaining the organization and functionality of the archival work and storage specs. *Periodic de-accessioning and removal of iems from archives for disposal at direction of archives manager. *Occasional lifting of large, heavy items of 50 pounds or more due to relocation and/or processing requirements. 
{Possible longer-term project may include:

*Organization and digitazation of 35mm photo slides. *Inventory of Davey family donation materials.  *Management of Davey's WebDAM (Online digital asset management system).

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate:

*Has experience or familiarity with archival and information sciences BMPs. *Is pursuing a degree in Information Science or similar field.  *Is fluent in Excel and other Microsoft Office software. *Is a motivated self-starter. *Has an interest in history and its preservation for storytelling purposes.
