Inventory Arborist Technician - Worcester, MA 1

Davey is a leader in the tree care, utility line clearing and forestry consulting industries, throughout the US and Canada. Position Description: This position involves tree inspection and evaluation for the presence of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB), field data collection of tree and site information on hand-held computers regarding tree species identification, and DBH measurement. The collected data will be used by the United States Department of Agriculture to detect all ALB infested trees in order to eliminate the infestations. Physically, the work requires the ability to thoroughly survey and inspect trees for signs of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) and associated damage all day long. This work will occur along city streets, individual residences, woodlots and wetlands. Specific task training is provided. Position Requirements: A two-year degree in forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, arboriculture, plant biology, conservation, or environmental science or related fields is preferred. Excellent tree identification skills Computer Proficiency is required since the work involves the use of advanced technology equipment such as hand-held computers, pen-tablet computers, GPS equipment and GIS tree management software. Ability to read and follow maps and to work independently Experience identifying damage in trees associated with the Asian Longhorned Beetle is a plus. A valid driver's license, good driving record Ability to work outside in all weather conditions around wildlife, in rugged terrain Excellent communication skills ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Full time position.
