Manager - Internal Audit (18 month contract)


The Kinross Corporate Head Office is located in downtown Toronto and supports Kinross' operations and projects worldwide. Corporate functions include Finance, Procurement, Health & Safety, Human Resources, IT, Investor Relations, Exploration, Geology and Mine Planning, among others.

JOB DESCRIPTION
To implement the future-state vision of the Internal Audit ("IA") function and operationalize IA processes, practices, and methodologies that are in line with the Kinross IA Charter, Institute of Internal Auditors' ("IIA") standards and relevant best practices. To manage day-to-day operations of the IA function in order to strengthen local control environments, ensure compliance with relevant standards (internally and/or externally), including support of the IA team overall. To initiate and undertake audit projects to optimize performance within specified areas and to ensure risk, controls and compliance matters are addressed. To plan, conduct, and report in line with Kinross' global IA mandate. To recommend changes to processes, controls, and mitigation by management and solicit feedback from stakeholders in the business with the intent of continuously improving the audit experience. The role directly reports to the Senior Manager, Internal Audit, under the overall oversight of the VP, Internal Audit.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
TO EXECUTE AUDIT STRATEGIES TO ALLOW THE KINROSS IA FUNCTION TO MEET ITS OVERALL MANDATE:

Proposes new IA approaches, methods (including use of technology), and policies to optimize the performance of the IA team and to ensure adherence to IIA standards and relevant best practices

Builds competencies through training and development in auditing, accounting, and other specialized areas of Kinross' business operations to support the execution of audits

Contributes to the identification & assessment of risks and controls, in order to determine appropriate audit scope and audit strategies

Completes special projects and reporting expected by management and the Board of Directors

Monitors costs related to corporate compliance and executes steps to enhance operational efficiency

TO LEAD AND MANAGE THE CORPORATE AUDIT STRATEGY AS DIRECTED IN THE GLOBAL AUDIT PLAN AND DELIVER HIGH QUALITY AUDITS:

Oversees the execution of specific audits, including conducting planning, risk assessment, interviews with management, development of audit programs, and closing meetings to issue and communicate audit reports and results

Prepares and/or presents written reports about observations and/or areas of improvement identified during the course of audits, including the tracking and follow-up of identified areas for management action

Adheres to performance targets and metrics in accordance with IA's mandate

Provides audit support for all aspects of the SOX compliance program and collaborates where appropriate with external auditors during all phases of the SOX compliance program

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
University degree in Finance or Business, or related fields such as Mining and Engineering.

A recognized accounting designation (e.g. CA / CPA / CIA) and relevant IA experience.

8 - 10 years experience in operations and/or financial management roles in mid-tier to large resource companies, of which 5 years (or more) pertain to Internal Audit.

Thorough understanding of IIA standards and interpretive guidance as well as practical application of audit techniques and advanced audit practices.

Good knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards.

Experience with SOX required.

Experience in working with ERPs, specifically JDE is required.

Language skills - English proficiency is required; knowledge of either Chilean Spanish, Russian or Portuguese is strongly preferred.

SKILLS
Data analytics expertise involving the use of the JDE ERP system

Strong written and oral communication skills in dealing with internal and external parties. Ability to proactively problem solve and work through contentious issues with auditees in a non-confrontational, professional manner, and deliver clear, concise and consistent messages both up, down, and across the organization, with all levels of management.

Strong project management skills.

Ability to supervise and coach others.

Ability to understand, interpret, and explain technical regulations and accounting policies set forth by the SEC, IASB, PCAOB, etc.

Approximately 25% travel will be required.
