Junior Exploration Geologist


The Kinross Kettle River-Buckhorn Operation is located in the State of Washington. The operation mines and processes ore from eight separate deposits in four local production centers. The Buckhorn mine continues to be a flagship operation for the company, having being highly awarded for leadership in low-impact mine development.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Under the direction of the Exploration Manager, the Exploration Geologist will contribute to the execution of exploration programs at the Kettle River mine.  The Exploration Geologist will manage data collection and oversee core shed activities, assist with administrative functions, and perform standard exploration geology tasks (core logging, field mapping/sampling, reporting).  The role will support property scale programs, oversee contractors, and ensure that the health and safety guidelines of the corporation are maintained.  The role is based at the Kettle River mine site. 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
*Field supervision of drilling/sampling programs and representing the company to contractors. *Logging core and RC cuttings, at drill sites and core shed. *Managing core logging and sampling program, training geotechnicians, *QA/QC tracking and data validation. *Data entry and data management, designing and improving existing workflows to manage geochemical, geophysical, and geologic data. *Field geological mapping, creating cross sections, and integrating a variety of geological data sets to create new maps and models. *Writing regular update reports and detailed technical reports for a variety of audiences, with potentially short notice. *Consistently exercises good judgment managing time and resources effectively in an evolving and dynamic environment.  *Helps track project costs and invoices, create requisitions, assists with budgeting and long-term planning. *Responsible for managing the  Environmental Health and Safety Management system in his/her areas of responsibility, and demonstrating these values to others. *Perform other related functions as assigned by the Exploration Manger
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
1.    Bachelors degree in Geology or Geosciences. 
2.    0.5-1 years year related work experience as a geologist.

SKILLS
1.    Good written and oral communication skills, with ability to work effectively and respectfully with a variety of technical and non-technical collaborators with different backgrounds.
2.    Demonstrated ability to stay organized and effectively manage data in a dynamic work environment.
3.    Good technical writing skills, able to create presentations and communicate results effectively.
4.    Solid grasp of word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software (MS Office Suite), experience with database software (acQuire) preferred
5.    Basic understanding of the mineral exploration process, core/RC drilling, and best practices for conducting exploration programs.
6.    Background in fundamental geology skills, including: geologic mapping, rock and mineral identification, creating cross sections, historical geology.  Experience working on low-sulfidation epithermal deposits and or/ in volcanic environments preferred.
7.    Ability to effectively manage time between different projects and use good judgement to balance deadlines.   Proactively seeks feedback as needed at important decision points.
8.    Experience using (or formal training in the use of) 2D GIS software to effectively manage field data collection, create maps, and plan exploration.
9.    Must be 18 years old and presently authorized to work in the United States on a full time basis. 
10.    Requires valid driver's license.
11.    Able to work in remote wilderness settings, on foot and using 4x4 vehicle to accomplish strenuous geologic fieldwork.
