Construction Superintendent


Located approximately 240 miles from the city of Fairbanks, Manh Choh will be the newest of Kinross Alaska mine sites.  Manh Choh will be primarily a camp based mine.  Kinross Fort Knox in Fairbanks is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world.  In 2019, the site poured its eight millionth ounce of gold, over 20 years into its mine life.  The initial Gilmore Expansion Project is expected to extend mine life to 2030.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION
The Construction Superintendent is responsible for supporting the Construction Manager in managing all aspects of Construction for the Manh Choh project  through final completion and commissioning/turnover. Major duties will include, but are not limited to, design review and input, managing day to day construction activities alongside construction supervisors,  scheduling, interfacing with local tribe and community, and coordinating with operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Responsible for timely and on budget completion of project bidding, procurement, construction, and pre-commissioning activities in accordance with schedule.
•    Control construction scope, budget and schedule of project, including approval of contractor progress and invoices.
•    Ensure appropriate and qualified personnel are organized in an efficient and effective manner to execute project activities. 
•    Ensure that all company policies are abided by at all times, namely in the areas of health, safety, and environmental protection.  
•    Work with Operations management to collaboratively manage project tie-ins.
•    Develop and manage change management process. 
•    Promotes value engineering by evaluating a contractor's proposal for alternative solutions. 
•    Answers questions from contractor and exercises independent judgment when making decisions to apply standards or modify construction plans to fit field conditions.
•    Follow processes for RFI and change order management.
•    Hold and document weekly progress meetings with contractors and project stakeholders.
•    Complete close out of all relevant contracts and develop as-built reports for filing and regulatory submittal.
•    Helps develop other department personnel to perform duties listed above.
•    Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.
•    Performs other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Employee must have sufficient education to read and write instructions, perform simple mathematical calculations, and keep records.
•    Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience is preferred.
•    Ten (10) years of progressive experience managing construction projects with a minimum of five years in a management role desired. 
•    Experience managing jobs exceeding $20 million is preferred.
•    Previous construction project experience in mining infrastructure, including mine haul roads and associated infrastructure is preferred. 
•    Experience managing Quality Control and Quality Assurance for earthworks and lining construction.
•    General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.
•    Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
•    Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational, and technical writing skills,
•    Ability to manage a team, if required, who places safe production first.
•    Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software, including the Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Project in particular. 
•    May work holidays, weekends, and shift work as required.
