RCPS Education Consultant- RN

JOB SUMMARY
Position will be based at the Burton Center for Arts and Technology at 1760 Roanoke Boulevard, Salem, Virginia.   There may also be some occasional travel to/from other Carilion facilities and locations.

In this role you will be listed with the Virginia Board of Nursing as the Coordinator and Primary Instructor for Carilion's Nurse Aide program at Burton Center for Arts & Technology.  You are also a recognized teacher on staff at Roanoke County Schools.  You will teach high school students the necessary skills and knowledge to sit for the certified nurse aide exam and become qualified to work as a CNA/NA in long-term or acute-care settings.

You will develop curriculum plans for the students and assess their progression during the program.  You will collaborate with Carilion leadership and work with Roanoke County Public Schools leadership, faculty, staff, and parents.  You will be expected to attend meetings and other events as required by Roanoke County Public School system.

In addition to classroom and clinical teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be responsible for annual course review by the Virginia Board of Nursing, skills lab, and equipment maintenance, monitoring and documentation of the VDOE CTE (Career and Technical Education) competencies, and coordination with Virginia Western Community College requirements for dual-enrolled students in Medical Terminology 1 and 2 and Orientation to Health Professions. Training an adjunct clinical and skills lab instructor may also be required.

The position is a full-time role with the summers spent developing lesson plans and content for the next school year, maintaining, or pursuing needed credentials, or assisting Carilion Education & Organizational Development Department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION:  Bachelor's degree in nursing required.

EXPERIENCE: 

Two years of experience as a registered nurse within the previous five years and at least one year of direct client care or supervisory experience in the provision of geriatric long-term care services. Other experience may include employment in a nurse aide education program or employment in or supervision of RN or LPN nursing students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department, chronic care hospital, home care, or other long-term care setting (Home Health, Hospice, Palliative Care and Rehabilitation)

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR REGISTRATION: 

Must be willing to pursue your provisional teaching certification when you start the role.  Pursuing your provisional teaching license will include taking online learning modules and then obtaining your permanent teaching license within 3 years of employment through required college coursework as directed by the Department of Education.  Must be a registered nurse who holds a current, unrestricted license in Virginia or a multistate licensure privilege.

Will also need to be a BLS instructor or pursue your BLS instructorship when you start the role.

OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Some form of teaching experience preferred. Prior work with adolescents a plus.  Must have strong oral and written communication skills, project management, time management, organizational skills, training skills, customer service and follow up skills.  Must be able to think critically and take initiative to improve processes.  Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.  Must be a team player.  Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements.
