Orthopedic Technician - Roanoke

JOB SUMMARY
*Assists physicians and staff in delivery of direct medical care in a high volume, clinical setting. *Applies and removes orthopedic castings, splints, braces, and ace wraps per physician / physician's assistant orders. *Applies steri-strips or dermabond and performs basic dressing changes per physician/ physician's assistant's order. *Performs patient/family education to include: casting care, follow up, wound care, removal of splints per physician/physician's assistant direction and alterations in activities of daily living required to enhance casting therapy. Documents education provided and patient's level of understanding. *Performs patient triage per Hospital Based Physician Practices policy. *Helps maintain orthopedic supplies with emphasis on unit usage and cost containment. Ensures accurate and timely communication of supply usage for inventory purposes. *Accurately documents patient care and education, as well as following guidelines for charging/billing process for DME.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent education required. Commitment to work toward national certification in orthopedic technology required. Completion of basic medical terminology course and basic skeletal anatomy, provided by **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***.
EXPERIENCE: 1 year experience in direct patient care required. Direct patient care in orthopedics preferred.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: AHA BLS-HCP required upon hire or must be able to acquire within 6 months of employment.
OTHER: Effective interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills required.Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position. Must be able to meet essential job functions. After 30 months, required to obtain Certification from the National Board for Certification of Orthopaedic Technologists (NBCOT) or equivalent certification required.
