The Financial Consultant serves as financial liaison between Senior Management, corporate financial services, and business units; to provide financial guidance and expertise to all Carilion entities and management; to prepare financial studies, evaluations and analyses.

Job responsibilities include:

*Develop and maintain advanced knowledge of financial and risk modeling techniques, financial analysis methodologies, and statistical procedures.  Exhibit the ability to apply this knowledge in various real-world situations. *Prepare spreadsheet models to perform financial analyses and use output to develop business plans.  Emphasis is on feasibility, break-even, performance, profitability, ratio, cash-flow, and financial statement analyses. *Develop and monitor appropriate strategic and operating controls, and communicate variances.  Evaluate and communicate financial risks of operational and strategic decisions.   *Collect and analyze data from appropriate sources and use in the completion of feasibility studies and business plans.  Possess expertise in locating resources to aid in building assumptions for financial models. *Lead assigned areas in the development of annual operating budget and capital process. *Distribute financial and operating reports to the assigned areas.  Assist service lines in interpretation of accounting rules and application of accounting rules. *Assist assigned areas in resolving budget variances and transaction errors.  Recommend and develop action plans to improve operational performance and follow through on actions or plans to completion. *Communicate effectively, persuasively, and in an articulate manner with all levels of management.  Make oral presentations to various levels of management and the governing boards.  Facilitate and lead meetings. *Promote development within the department and the division by training other employees in the use of software, the proper use of financial analysis techniques, and the development of resources for generating financial model assumptions. *Facilitate development of scorecard measures and targets for assigned areas and coordination of data reporting.  Monitor business plans and performance improvement initiative reporting in scorecard application

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

EXPERIENCE: Four or more years experience in health care finance, accounting, and financial or strategic planning. Treasury experience is preferred but not required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATION: Professional certification in finance related area preferred.

OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database applications and knowledge of financial support systems.   Advanced reasoning skills and the proven ability to think independently and intuitively.   Knowledge of accounting rules and financial management processes   Demonstrated team building and leadership skills.
