Trauma Outreach Coordinator - CNRVMC
Christiansburg, VA

JOB SUMMARY
This position is located at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center (CNRVMC) in Christiansburg, VA.  This is a full time position, working primarily Monday-Friday day shift with some evening and weekend events on occasion. 
The Trauma Outreach Coordinator (TOC) works to promote optimal care of the trauma patient throughout the region and within the guidelines established by the Commonwealth of Virginia and the American College of Surgeons. S/he is responsible for planning and managing community injury prevention, trauma education and outreach activities and increase support within the community we serve. In addition, s/he works to advance the science of injury prevention, and increase awareness about the hospital's reputation for excellence in trauma and emergency surgical services as a Level Three Trauma Center. The TOC provides consultation and educational services to all facilities and EMS agencies within the region with a focus on injury prevention and improving patient outcomes and participates in process improvement activities and site survey preparation to accomplish the goals of the regional strategic plan. Examples include driving and firearms safety, fall prevention and domestic violence awareness. In addition to community awareness programs, the Trauma Outreach Coordinator may participate in programs and organizations established by EMS and law enforcement agencies in schools, camps and other similar settings. Works closely with the Trauma Program Director and the Trauma Section Chief. Collaborates with other regional outreach coordinators and participates in appropriate programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.  Must have a Bachelors degree in nursing, education or related field. Masters degree strongly preferred. Must have a valid driver's license.
EXPERIENCE: 3 to 5 years clinical nursing experience required. Experience and knowledge of trauma systems and injury prevention preferred.  Must have experience in public speaking, education and project management. Experience with developing spreadsheets, graphs and the research process is preferable.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS/REGISTRATION: License as a Registered Nurse in good standing in the state of Virginia required.  AHA BLS-HCP, AHA-ACLS, TNCC or equivalent certifications required. May be required to obtain additional certifications related to injury prevention and outreach. 
LIFE SUPPORT: AHA BLS-HCP, AHA-ACLS, TNCC or equivalent certifications required. 
OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be capable of building successful relationships with healthcare professionals and legislative representatives invested in injury prevention and safety. Must have outstanding and effective written and verbal communication skills and be self directed, innovative and resourceful.  Must be capable of being an ambassador for **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** specifically CRMH as a Level One Trauma Center. Experience with Excel, PowerPoint and Microsoft Office essential.Background/experience in injury prevention, experience/knowledge of trauma and critical care pathophysiology and patient care management preferred.
