Perinatal Educator
Roanoke, VA REQUISITION NUMBER: 86014 EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Flex SHIFT: Day/Evening SHIFT DETAILS: Mixture of virtual and in-person classes; mostly evenings JOB SUMMARY Make the most of your clinical skills at an organization that has earned numerous awards for clinical excellence. Based in Roanoke, VA, our community-based health care organization encompasses a comprehensive network of hospitals, primary and specialty physician practices, and other complementary services. Teaches/facilitates a variety of perinatal education classes using established instructional outline; provides accurate information on topic presented. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development to appropriately care for patient/residents served. Presents perinatal education topics to include, but not limited to, car seat safety, prepared childbirth education, infant CPR, newborn care, "Happiest Baby on the Block" breastfeeding., and Baby Basics Mom's Club facilitation. Observes attendants and interacts in an appropriate manner to assure comprehension of material. Allows class to be observed by trainees and observes other training instructors as requested. Maintains a class roster and collects class evaluations for Manager. Reports class attendance numbers. Enhances professional development through participation in in-services, continuing education programs, seeking/maintaining certification, and reading current literature. Provides perinatal education directly to the community at large, primarily through classroom presentation and other planned healthcare-related events. Functions as a team member to advance Carilion's Clinic's goals through health education skills and by serving as a resource on community health education issues. Frequently communicates, directly and indirectly with management, staff, client confidential contacts, regulatory agencies, physicians and other customers. Works under minimal supervision and within established Carilion policies and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: Associate's degree or equivalent 4 years experience required, preferably in field of nursing or related health care field. Bachelor's degree preferred. EXPERIENCE: One (1) year experience in related field. LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR REGISTRATION: Certification as required based on work assignment (see Addendum "Examples of Acceptable Certifications Required for Perinatal Courses" ). Virginia Drivers License OTHER MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be service-oriented and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Requires the ability to educate clients of any age or SES level on health issues; demonstrates knowledge and skills to provide educational components, knowledge of principles of growth and life span development, assesses specific participant information to identify risk factors. Previous group teaching preferred, but not required; effective public speaking skills, ability to work with A/V equipment and knowledge of MS Office. Must be able to work flexible hours and able to travel to multiple work sites.
