 The Coder position reviews clinical documentation and diagnostic results on Ambulatory records as appropriate to extract data and applies appropriate ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 CM and CPT-4 codes for billing, internal and external reporting, research, and regulatory compliance.

 The job duties of the Coder include, but are not limited to, the following:

*Coordinates resolution of discrepancies in clinical charge coding through Revenue Auditor Division of Revenue Cycle Management. *Consults with physicians to improve or clarify medical record documentation for complete, accurate and compliant coding. *Extracts required information from source documentation and enters into encoder. *Identifies and reconciles patients' pre-surgical and post-surgical visits with their Outpatient Diagnostic Accounts and appropriately combine the coding and billing of the accounts. *Maintains working knowledge of 3M CRS, 3M 360 Encompass, 3M Standalone, and Cornerstone and Elsevier software. *Assist in implementing solutions to reduce back-end billing errors. *Maintains knowledge of Federal and Private Sector coding and billing requirements as they apply to the Ambulatory Surgery setting. *May assist with Outpatient Diagnostic Coding or Emergency dept. coding as needed.
Facility Ambulatory (Same Day) Surgery volume across the clinic is approximately 31,000 -€" 35,000 annually.

Flexible hours Monday - Friday; OT as needed; Can work remotely ONLY AFTER 3-6 MONTHS OF ONSITE TRAINING IN ROANOKE, VA
8am-4:30pm M-F

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School education required: college degree preferred. Medical Terminology and Physiology Anatomy required.

Experience: The successful internal candidate for Ambulatory Surgery will have a minimum of 1.5 years combined experience in Outpatient and ED Coding, with a consistent accuracy rating of 96% or better. External Candidates must have previous Outpatient, ED experience, with prior Ambulatory Surgery experience referred. Basic computer skills required.Experience in ICD9 and CPT coding; and ICD10 training preferred.

Licensure/Certification: RHIT, RHIA, CPC, CCA, CCS, or CPC-H required.
