Pastry Chef
Lawrence, KS Company Name: Dillons Position Type: Employee FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Summary: Make pastries for the up-scale pastry case, as well as ice and decorate cakes, cupcakes, and cookies on order in an efficient, sanitary, and artistic manner. Perform customer service functions and follow all company policies and procedures. Essential Job Functions: * Create pastries for the up-scale case as well as ice cakes as per orders designate. * Makes pastries and decorates cakes, cupcakes, and cookies in specified patterns by using a stencil, decorator tubes of icing, sugar molds, decorator lay-ons and Kopy Kake designs. * Prepare bakery items including cakes, tortillas, pastries, cookies by shaping/forming, baking, decorating. * Must be able to maintain a minimum unit per hour and produce products of consistent quality, which meet company standards. * Answer phones and take customer orders, ensuring orders are completed on time and to the customer's satisfaction. * Follow all current rules and duties of the Bakery, Company, and State and Federal laws, as made known. * Wash and sanitize equipment in accordance with company and Health Department policies and procedures. * Must keep work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. * Be prompt, tactful, calm, courteous, and professional in all interactions. * Adhere to company policies and procedures. * Maintain equipment and facilities properly and safely in accordance with company policies and procedures. * Assist as needed or assigned on special projects such as periodic inventories, catering, weddings, and events. * Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation. Minimum Position Qualifications: * Willing and available to work weekends and holidays. * Effective written and verbal communication skills. * Ability to multi-task and set priorities. * Personal initiative and follow through to completion. * Strong communication skills and diplomacy when dealing with people. * Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment and willingness to help all members of the department. * Able to tactfully and calmly handle stressful situations and make a positive impression on associates and customers. * Possess abilities and skills for effective production, merchandising, and customer services related to preparation and sale of bakery products. Desired Previous Job Experience: * Bakery work experience or similar experience in food preparation. * Past work record reflects dependability and integrity. * Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations related to employment practices, safety, and food handling.
