Manager, External Reporting

GENERAL SUMMARY: Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting and Accounting, the Manager, External Reporting is a key member of the Designer Brands Accounting team, a highly visible team supporting the Senior Vice President, Controller and Principal Accounting Officer.  This role leads the timely preparation of external SEC quarterly and annual financial statements with one direct report. The manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams in Finance and throughout the organization.  The position is fully remote.
REPORTS TO: Director, Financial Reporting and Accounting
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*Responsible for the end-to-end process for periodic SEC filings, including Forms 10-K, 10-Q and 8-K, including the associated XBRL tagging to ensure financial statements adhere to U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations *Prepare footnote support schedules, related tie-out for SEC filings and disclosure checklists  *Collaborate with the general accounting teams across DBI businesses to prepare external SEC filings *Collaborate with the legal and investor relations team to ensure compliance with SEC regulations *Work closely with external auditors to manage the financial quarterly review and annual audit process *Collaborate with partners in Investor Relations, Legal and Human Resources to ensure accuracy of other filings and external financial information, including earnings release and Proxy Statement *Collaborate with partners across the organization in developing disclosure controls and procedures for financial and non-financial external reported information *Responsible for various accounting aspects (journal entries, account reconciliations, projection, budget) of the monthly financial close process, including stock compensation, certain related party activities, and Board of Director fees *Monitor new accounting pronouncements and changes in reporting requirements, assess the impact to Designer Brands *Maintain a strong internal control environment and effective disclosure controls and procedures, including administration of the disclosure committee process *Manage and develop team members in external reporting  *May draft initial position papers on technical accounting matters

REQUIRED SKILLS:

*System knowledge of Workiva, Oracle FCCS and MS Office *Highly detailed oriented and meticulous with data *Ability to handle multiple tasks *Shift with changing priorities and prioritize workload to meet deadlines *Strong understanding of accounting *Strong analytical and problem solving skills *Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills *Strong Finance, System and general business acumen

EXPERIENCE:

*Strong knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements *5-7 years' accounting experience, with at least 2 years SEC reporting *Prior management or supervisory experience *Active CPA

EDUCATION:

*Degree in Accounting
