Manager, Marketing Advanced Analytics

GENERAL SUMMARY
The role manages a team of skilled data scientists and data engineers charged with exploring, discovering, and delivering cutting edge analytical insights to the organization in order to profitably grow our business. This role will independently lead projects, liaise with senior leadership, and influence critical business decisions. This will partner with internal marketing and external roles to impact customer experience, loyalty, and CRM. Proven ability to take an idea all the way from ideation to implementation and realization of value. This role heavily contributes to the rapid evolution of marketing's role in the organization - including the development and adaptation of sophisticated & ever-evolving methodologies/algorithms in the areas of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data mining to drive data-based personalization efforts, customer white-space opportunities and customer behavior modeling. 
REPORTS TO: Vice President, Data Science & Analytics 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Owns and manages the company's CRM database, including cross-functional support of data definitions and usage of the database
• Proactively drives and delivers data-driven insights related to increasing sales, margin, profit, and customer loyalty by exploring and mining data assets across multiple sources, including customer data mart, site and digital
• Aggregates and integrates multi-channel data to develop models to predict customer behaviors based on engagement with marketing touch points, content and prior sales
• Extracts key insights from analytical projects into a format easily understood by business partners and leaders, both technical and non-technical
• Leads the agenda on analytical road maps, forging effective partnerships with IT and external resources - to include the effective use and leveraging of external partners
• Collaborates with key business partners and leaders to solve business problems or knowledge gaps and identify analytical opportunities to drive better decision making from sharper insights
• Proactively identifies business opportunities and leads the development of machine learning models and other statistics-based analytics
• Researches / remains current with emerging techniques in analytics (machine learning, deep learning, AI) and applies them to solve business challenges improving relevancy in messaging with customers, optimizing patterns of redemption, delivering propensity models, etc.
• Designs and develops complex data and analysis requirements, to include testing / learning agendas for both internal and external projects
• Identifies, recommends, and implements updates to business and technical processes to generate automation and efficiency improvements, segmentation enhancements, and triggered/multi-step campaign opportunities
• Develops & effectively communicates compelling story-lines supported by clear data visualizations and summaries to educate and drive decisions from business leaders
• Manages both team and business leadership expectations in a timely and effective manner
REQUIRED SKILLS:
• Strong experience in database applications, tools and usage, and best practices around data analytics
• Highly proficient in analytical thinking, problem solving, statistics, modeling, and data mining
• Ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously across the team while meeting deadlines; strong time management skills
• Ability to work independently and move at the speed of the business
• Requires demonstration of strong technical skills and soft skills in a management role.
• Superior process management skills with proven ability to identify and proactively solve problems
• Ability to work in a multi-team environment, in which various business owners and partners require support
• Ability to influence key stakeholders effectively to ensure contributions are leveraged appropriately and with an eye towards moving the business forward
• Excellent verbal, written & presentations skills
• High degree of analytical curiosity that leads to comprehensive data acquisition and analysis
• Leverages customer segmentation, quantitative analysis and data mining to understand and communicate customer journeys; strong ability to develop a single view of the customer and "connect dots" that others may not see
• Ability to thrive in a highly quantitative, fast-paced environment with changing business needs
• High degree of initiative, personal responsibility and ownership
• Exceptional eye for audit beyond just checking code, including understanding the business, data, and volumes/metrics to identify anomalies or errors
EXPERIENCE:
• 6 years of experience in data manipulation, statistical analysis and predictive modeling
• 4 years' experience as a data engineer (subject matter expert)
• 2 years of experience leading, managing, and developing internal talent
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Retail experience strongly preferred
• Strong leader with proven ability to manage and guide data scientists
• Expertise in R or Python for statistical modeling and other machine learning applications
• Expertise with SQL and NoSQL database environments and is adept at aggregating and combining large, complex data sets
• Proven track record of various machine learning techniques to create models that drive significant business results
• Experience with relevant analytical metrics to evaluate modeling projects using historical test sets and live in-market tests
• Experience using command line to interact with operating systems
• Proficient in MS Excel (graphing, pivot tables, data manipulation, formulas, etc.)
• Capable of working in a dynamic environment, handling multiple projects, meeting deadlines, able to prioritize appropriately and respond to issues quickly and creatively
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree in business; Master's degree a plus
