We are currently seeking an Immigration Legal Assistant to join our team in Denver, CO.

As an Immigration Legal Assistant, you will play a crucial role in representing eligible Afghans who have recently arrived in the United States through Operation Allies Welcome (OAW). This is a new partnership with the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) in the Western region of the United States. The IRC is a lead agency in responding to the Afghan evacuation and serves tens of thousands of Afghan individuals across the country.

In this role, you will work closely with legal practitioners to provide critical legal representation and advice to immigrants and their families. You will also have the opportunity to work towards Department of Justice (DOJ) accreditation with support from IRC’s Immigration Technical Unit.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide clients with information about immigration benefits and assist them in completing applications
- Respond to inquiries from clients and submit inquiries on case status to USCIS and/or Department of State (DOS)
- Process correspondence from USCIS and DOS and maintain accurate and up-to-date files and case notes
- Represent the IRC with clients, community members, and partners through phone calls, emails, and outreach activities
- Maintain strict client confidentiality and adhere to ethical practices and obligations
- Manage intern and volunteer support as needed

Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience
- Ability to pass a Federal e-Qip Tier 2 background check
- Experience working with Limited English Proficient populations and in a multi-cultural environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and comfortable using online software
- Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English, bilingual in Dari or Pashto preferred
- Dedication to immigrant rights, social justice, or human rights

Preferred Experience and Skills:

- Previous experience with immigration legal or social services
- Familiarity with immigration software and data entry
- Experience with community-based outreach or promoting immigrant rights

Working Environment:

- Standard office environment with occasional opportunities for community outreach and legal assistance events
- May require occasional weekend and/or evening work
