Job Description:

- Join a team of attorneys representing survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in family law matters
- Provide direct representation and attend court hearings regularly
- Opportunity to provide education and outreach through legal trainings and engagement with partner agencies and organizations
- Expected to comply with grant requirements
- Report to the Supervising Attorney with potential for career advancement to Senior Attorney

Responsibilities:

- Provide legal services to low-income survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Represent clients in restraining order hearings and other family law proceedings
- Travel to various NLSLA branch offices, courts, government agencies, shelters, and community-based organizations throughout southern California
- Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and secretaries to ensure high-quality service to clients
- Work closely with social services agencies to assess community legal needs
- Review and maintain grant compliance
- Participate in public policy advocacy, community education, and outreach to benefit survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault

Requirements:

- JD from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in California
- Prior experience serving low-income individuals and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Experience with trauma-informed approaches
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel

- Salary range of $78,000-$86,000
- 35-hour workweek with a hybrid schedule
- 15 paid holidays per year

NLSLA is looking for a Staff Attorney with a passion for supporting low-income individuals and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. This is a full-time position with a salary range of $78,000-$86,000. The ideal candidate will have a JD from an accredited law school and be licensed to practice law in California. They will also have prior experience serving low-income individuals and survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as experience with trauma-informed approaches.
