Staff Attorney - Shriver Housing Project Los Angeles

NLSLA (**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***) is currently seeking a full-time Staff Attorney to join their eviction defense team. This role will provide free assistance to individuals and families, with a focus on addressing the most critical needs of those living in poverty throughout Los Angeles. NLSLA is a community of individuals who see the law as a powerful tool to fight for individual rights and social change. In this role, the Staff Attorney will be an integral part of a dynamic team of advocates at four public interest law offices, working on a pilot project examining the impact of legal services on individuals, the court, and the community in the Unlawful Detainer system. The role will involve defending tenants against eviction in cases in Los Angeles County and engaging in all stages of litigation. The Staff Attorney will also work with community partners to develop resources and strategies for protecting homeowners and tenants, provide outreach and education to tenants and community groups, and assist with training support staff. There may also be opportunities to work on policy issues related to housing and evictions and make court appearances when appropriate.

Reporting to the Supervising Attorney, this role offers a career path that may lead to future opportunities as a Senior Attorney. The position is exempt and may require some travel to other NLSLA branch offices, courts, government agencies, shelters, and community-based organizations in Los Angeles County.

Requirements for this role include a JD from an accredited law school, current membership in the California Bar, and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. The ideal candidate will also be bilingual in Spanish and have a passion for supporting people from different lived experiences.
