Dayton, OH - Job title: Legal Assistant - Job ID: 1173 - Location: Dayton, OH - Department: Legal Assistant - Pay type: Hourly - Experience: Approximately 2 years as a legal secretary - Education: High school diploma or equivalent - Schedule: Full-time (M-F) - Work environment: In-office - Company name: Bricker Graydon LLP - Culture: Inclusive and positive, built on respect - Team members: Diverse and unique strengths, experience, and character - Mission: To provide a positive work environment where employees can thrive - Benefits: Full benefits package, including paid family leave and 401(k) contribution - Equal opportunity employer: Welcome applicants of all backgrounds, genders, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, cultures, religions, ages, veteran status, genetics, and disabilities - Job function: Staff - Legal support: Provides support to attorneys and their clients - Confidentiality: Upholds confidentiality of client and firm matters - Essential duties and responsibilities: - Types court-related documents, correspondence, memos, reports, and internal forms accurately and efficiently - Transcribes from dictated or handwritten material, drafts documents, and modifies documents and formats from attorney notes or instructions - Prioritizes workload and duties to meet deadlines and court filings - Conducts periodic review for closing and storing of files - Receives visitors and telephone calls in a pleasant and professional manner, accurately records information, and notifies appropriate personnel or records message - Responds to general inquiries within company policies and procedures - Assists other attorneys and legal assistants during periods of heavy workload or absences - Maintains calendar and schedules appointments, meetings, and court proceedings - Makes travel arrangements for assigned attorneys and team members - Performs tasks such as e-filing, creating and revising Tables of Authorities and Contents, PowerPoint presentations, and Excel documents - Reviews pre-bills and makes necessary corrections or changes in a timely manner to meet accounting deadlines - Education/Experience: - High school diploma or equivalent - Approximately 2 years as a legal secretary - Ability to work full-time in-office - Highly efficient in Microsoft Office products - Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: - Strong typing, formatting, and proofreading skills - Attention to detail and ability to produce error-free work - Rapid understanding of technology and ability to work independently while still in a team setting - Excellent knowledge and usage of Microsoft Office - Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure - Ability to understand and follow specific and detailed instructions - Utilizes reading and writing skills for proofreading and editing - Transcribes legal documents, correspondence, time entry, and reports at a speed of 70 wpm - Strong knowledge of office technology and software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, client database, document management system, time entry system, and internet resources - Familiarity with court timelines and deadlines - Ability to comprehend instructions, respond to changing situations, multi-task, and make decisions based on reliable information and logical assumptions - Ability to work independently and plan ahead, anticipating an attorney's needs - Maintains effective relationships with others and demonstrates flexibility - Willingness to extend workday beyond normal business hours if needed - Equipment used: Personal computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, scanner, etc. - Physical demands: Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment - Mental demands: Ability to deal with stress, multiple priorities/tasks, and communicate with various personalities at all levels - Working conditions: Typical office setting, occasional hours in excess of normal daily schedule may be required - Disclaimer: Job description is not an employment agreement or contract, management has sole discretion to add or modify duties and designate other functions as essential at any time. |
