Summary:

- The Legal Aid Society's Civil Practice is seeking a Paralegal Casehandler for their Foreclosure Prevention and Homeowner Preservation Unit in the Bronx Neighborhood Office.
- The unit works on policy advocacy and law reform issues, as well as individual representation at the trial and appellate levels in State and federal court.
- The Paralegal Casehandler will work with Staff Attorneys to evaluate clients for assistance and representation, assist with loss mitigation and advocacy for loan modifications, and advocate for clients with governmental agencies.
- Other responsibilities include identifying abusive and fraudulent real estate and lending practices, community outreach, and trainings.
- The Paralegal Casehandler will staff the Foreclosure Prevention Clinic and telephone helplines, interview and assess client requests for services, and provide advice and brief services.
- Required documents include a resume and cover letter, and the deadline for submission is 3:00 PM EST on April 24, 2024.
- The ideal candidate will have a paralegal certificate or bachelor's degree in a relevant field, excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team.
- Familiarity with real estate and mortgage issues, experience advocating for low-income people and immigrants, and proficiency in Spanish are desirable but not required.
- The salary range for this position is $57,687 - $83,218, and benefits include health insurance, paid vacation, and disability and life insurance.
