Staff Attorney- Immigrants Rights Project (Two Openings)

• Education: Juris Doctor degree with California Bar membership

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct representation to unaccompanied children in removal proceedings before immigration courts
• Represent children in state courts to obtain orders related to Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
• Represent children in applications for asylum, SIJS, and other forms of relief before US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
• Work collaboratively with social workers, administrative staff, and other attorneys to provide holistic and trauma-informed services to clients
• Collect case data and contribute to grant reports
• Provide technical assistance to pro bono attorneys
• Manage a large caseload and prioritize tasks effectively

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor degree with California Bar membership
• Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred
• Experience practicing immigration law preferred, with a focus on removal defense and representation of children seeking asylum and/or SIJS
• Strong legal research and writing skills
• Comfort and experience working with diverse clients, including those with criminal history and/or complex trauma
• Willingness and ability to travel to various courts in the Southern California region
• Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Commitment to continuous learning and openness to feedback
• Strong time-management and organizational skills
• Commitment to immigrants' rights and racial and economic justice
