Staff Attorney - Homelessness Prevention Law Project (Two Openings)

**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** is seeking two compassionate and dedicated attorneys to join our team as Staff Attorneys for the Homelessness Prevention Law Project. This is a full-time, exempt position with a salary range of $75,000-$83,800 for those with 0-5 years of experience. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about advancing civil rights and racial and economic justice, and who are committed to amplifying the power of our clients through comprehensive legal advocacy. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of individuals who are homeless or at high risk of becoming homeless. As a Staff Attorney, you will carry a personal caseload litigating unlawful detainer cases, provide legal counsel and advice to low-income individuals regarding evictions and related housing matters, and participate in community outreach and education.

**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to advancing civil rights and racial and economic justice. Founded on a pro bono legal service model, our staff and volunteers seek justice through direct legal services, education and outreach, and policy advocacy. We operate eight legal projects, including our Homelessness Prevention Law Project (HPLP).

About the Homelessness Prevention Law Project:

HPLP serves individuals who are homeless or at high risk of becoming homeless. Our work includes preventing displacement, supporting local tenants in their efforts to obtain an Eviction Moratorium ordinance, and advocating for a Right to Counsel for all tenants in eviction proceedings. We also work with a network of pro bono attorneys to handle unlawful detainer cases and other housing matters.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry a personal caseload litigating unlawful detainer cases
• Provide legal counsel and advice to low-income individuals regarding evictions and related housing matters
• Act as a resource for other **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** staff and partner agencies
• Work with pro bono attorneys to handle unlawful detainer cases and other housing matters
• Participate in community outreach and education
• Assist with grant reporting and billing

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor degree and member in good standing of the California Bar
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Excellent negotiation and organizational skills
• Ability to spot legal issues and provide real-time counsel and advice
• Desire to learn and share knowledge
• Comfort with practicing trauma-informed legal advocacy
• Commitment to race equity and community-centered work
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
• Ability to commute throughout Los Angeles County
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

Preferred Experience and Abilities:

• 1-5 years of litigation experience
• Eviction defense experience
• Familiarity with housing laws
• Experience with data collection and creating reports
• Fluent in Spanish
