Staff Attorney- Federal Pro Se Clinic
Los Angeles, CA Staff Attorney - Federal Pro Se Clinic: $75,000-$102,400 DOE **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** is a nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to advancing civil rights and racial and economic justice through comprehensive legal advocacy. We are seeking a staff attorney for our Federal Pro Se Clinic, which provides high quality legal assistance to individuals litigating federal civil actions without representation in the Central District of California. This is a full-time, exempt position funded by a time-limited grant with the potential for renewal. Responsibilities: - Provide procedural and substantive legal advice to pro se litigants in federal actions in a clinical setting - Review and analyze federal pleadings in a variety of substantive areas (civil rights, employment, contract and tort matters, etc.) - Prepare forms, guides, and instructional videos for pro se litigants - Provide limited scope representation to selected low-income, pro se litigants - Supervise a legal assistant and recruit, train, and supervise volunteer lawyers and law students at the Clinic - Coordinate with judges, court staff, and community partners to provide pro se services - Perform grant compliance duties and work with pro bono attorneys interested in representing pro se litigants - Other duties as assigned Requirements: - J.D. and California Bar membership - At least 1 year of legal experience - Familiarity with Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Central District of California's Local Rules - Comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment and interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds - Experience working in a clinical setting preferred - Excellent communication, research, and writing skills - Spanish language fluency preferred - Prior federal clerkship highly desired Benefits: - Medical, dental, and vision coverage with HMO and PPO options - Flexible Spending Account option - 403(b) retirement plan with employer contribution after 1 year - Employer-paid life insurance and disability plans - Generous paid time off and compensatory time - On-site parking or public transportation reimbursement How to apply: - Discuss lived experiences and working with clients in your cover letter - **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** requires COVID-19 vaccination for all employees - Remote work has been permitted during the pandemic, but employees are required to work in the office at least one day per week - **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** is an Equal Opportunity Employer and considers all qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories Join our team at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** and make a difference in promoting justice and equality in our community. |
