Senior Claims Counsel

Essent Group Ltd. is currently seeking a Senior Claims Counsel to join our team in Radnor, PA. This is a management position that provides leadership and general legal support for both the Title underwriter and title agent subsidiaries of Essent Title. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven (7) years of experience in either a law firm or corporate legal department, with prior experience in title insurance, real estate transactions, and insurance law regulation. The Senior Claims Counsel will be responsible for claims administration, including individual claim load responsibilities, and will provide support and advice to all stakeholders regarding property management and day-to-day operational issues. Other responsibilities include developing and maintaining vendor relationships, reviewing and responding to regulatory complaints, and staying up-to-date on industry trends and changes in regulations.

Job Description:

As a Senior Claims Counsel at Essent Group Ltd., you will be responsible for providing leadership and general legal support for both the Title underwriter and title agent subsidiaries of Essent Title. Your main focus will be on title insurance claims investigation and administration, management of claims budgets and reserves, and negotiation with insureds, opposing counsel, and third parties. You will also be responsible for staying up-to-date on industry trends, products, technologies, and legal and regulatory changes to recommend updates to strategic and operational plans for leadership decision-making.

Responsibilities:

- Leadership in claims administration, including individual claim load responsibilities
- Counsels management regarding compliance with insurance laws and regulations
- Provides support and advice to all stakeholders regarding property management and day-to-day operational issues
- Develops, negotiates, and maintains vendor relationships
- Reviews and responds to regulatory complaints
- Stays up-to-date on industry trends and changes in regulations
- Performs other duties as assigned by management

Requirements:

- JD - Juris Doctor
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience in either a law firm or corporate legal department
- Prior experience in title insurance, real estate transactions, and insurance law regulation
- Experience in litigation management, insurance claims management, and/or real estate/title law is preferred
- Admission to state bar in the state where practicing
- Proficiency in legal research methods, rules of evidence, and the conduct of court proceedings
- Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills
- Excellent research and analytical skills
- Organizational, prioritization, and time management skills with attention to detail
- Sound judgement with a high degree of integrity and discretion
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Bar License - single state
- Proficient with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities with conflicting deadlines
- Advanced knowledge in contract drafting and negotiations
- Ability to form and maintain professional relationships with clients, colleagues, vendors, and management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
