Paralegal - Assisting with USCIS Litigation Support Team

Hybrid Role in Suitland, Maryland, United States

Job Title: Paralegal

Salary: Based on experience and qualifications

Experience:

- Must have a paralegal certificate, JD, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school
- One year of legal training or experience, or two years of college education can be substituted for the paralegal certificate
- At least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience
- Basic legal knowledge, including knowledge of standard legal citations and the Bluebook
- Experience using legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging
- Experience with databases such as National Files Tracking System (NFTS), Computer Linked Application Information Management System (CLAIMS), Person Centric Query System (PCQS), or Tableau is helpful
- Trial experience and automated litigation experience is a plus

Responsibilities:

- Update databases to indicate receipt of ROPs/E-ROPs from USCIS operational staff
- Review case files to determine relationship between applicants for immigration benefits adjudication and litigation
- Review and summarize case facts and match with attorney-provided case law language, regulations, sources, and other relevant information
- Update databases tracking correspondence, visa petition appeals, legal advice, and federal litigation
- Perform basic legal research using tools such as Lexis and Westlaw
- Organize, update, and ensure completeness and accuracy of individual litigation files
- Assemble final package for submission to Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) and update trackers
- Monitor and keep track of the status of ROPs and e-RPOPs between field offices
- Draft basic summaries of case information, trend reports, and narratives of common issues in visa petition appeals

Qualifications:

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a moderate risk public trust (MRPT) facility credentials/authorization
- US Citizenship is required for MRPT facility credentials/authorization at this work location
- Must have basic legal knowledge and experience using legal research tools
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Familiarity with a variety of computer applications
- Basic familiarity with databases
- Excellent skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and working knowledge of SharePoint
- Able to consistently deliver highest quality work under pressure
- Trial experience and automated litigation experience is a plus
