Salary: Starting salary ranges from $70,329 to $128,569 annually, based on years of experience.

Job Title: Staff Attorney - Eviction Prevention Unit - Spokane

Experience: Washington State Bar Association membership in good standing, with the ability to acquire membership through admission by motion or the next Washington bar exam. Litigation experience, particularly in Superior Court, tenant rights, and housing matters, is preferred. Experience in housing, foreclosure, or other legal issues affecting low-income communities is also preferred. Demonstrated experience or connection to NJP's client communities is preferred. Cultural competence and experience working with low-income client communities, communities of color, limited English speakers, and persons with disabilities is desired. Travel between counties and representation in different courts is required.

NJP is seeking two (2) attorneys to join the Eviction Prevention Unit in its Spokane office.

Vaccination Requirement: Proof of COVID vaccine is a condition of employment at NJP. Exemptions based on medical and sincerely held religious beliefs may be requested.

Job Duties:
- Represent individuals eligible for representation in unlawful detainer actions by the Superior Court
- Assist individuals with unfiled unlawful detainer actions as appropriate
- Use strategic methods and advocacy tools to address high priority eviction-related client needs
- Focus on legal needs of marginalized groups, including immigrants, youth, seniors, and disabled persons
- Develop collaborative working relationships with a statewide network of advocates
- Engage with at-risk communities and participate in legal education events
- Serve as a resource to other advocates working on landlord-tenant and eviction-related issues
- Utilize NJP's case management and timekeeping systems
- Comply with all applicable regulatory requirements and reporting needs
- Provide coverage across counties as necessary
- Travel to courthouses within the region as needed
- Support the work of NJP's eviction defense partners, including volunteer lawyer programs and other legal aid providers

Qualifications:
- Washington State Bar Association membership in good standing, with the ability to acquire membership through admission by motion or the next Washington bar exam
- Litigation experience, particularly in Superior Court, tenant rights, and housing matters, is preferred
- Experience in housing, foreclosure, or other legal issues affecting low-income communities is preferred
- Demonstrated experience or connection to NJP's client communities is preferred
- Cultural competence and experience working with low-income client communities, communities of color, limited English speakers, and persons with disabilities is desired
- Travel between counties and representation in different courts is required
- Reliable transportation to travel to courthouses within a region is required

Compensation: Starting salary ranges from $70,329 to $128,569 annually, based on years of experience. NJP offers compensation for those regularly asked to use a language other than English in their work. A comprehensive benefits package is also provided, including 100% paid employee health premiums and significant premium shares for family health premiums, as well as generous time off.

Hours of Work: NJP's typical client office hours are 9:00 - 5:00, Monday through Friday. Attorney positions are exempt and those in the position are expected to work the hours needed to meet their professional responsibilities.
