Associate Counsel Job Summary:

The successful candidate will work closely with various departments and entities to anticipate, identify, and manage legal liability areas and exposure. The Associate Counsel will also manage litigation, review and negotiate agreements, and provide counsel on risk management. The ideal candidate will have a Juris Doctorate degree, 3-5 years of experience as in-house counsel or at a law firm, and be licensed to practice law in any state.

Job Title:

Experience Information:

- 3-5 years of experience at a law firm or equivalent experience as in-house counsel

Primary Responsibilities:

- Manage pending and open litigation matters and other claims
- Assist in the review and administration of workers compensation claims and issues
- Work closely with individual departments and related entities to anticipate, identify and manage liability areas and legal exposure
- Assist in development and enforcement of company and stadium policies
- Manage and enforce document organization and retention policy
- Interpret, draft/revise and administer guidance related to league rules
- Assist in the preparation, review and negotiation of a variety of legal documents
- Conduct research using legislation, case law and other legal texts
- Establish and maintain regular contact with key outside counsel and business partners
- Provide counsel and advice in connection with risk management
- Represent the organization at community, civic and corporate functions
- Participate in special projects as requested
- Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity and dedication in the fulfillment of commitments

Minimum Qualifications:

- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in any state, be in good standing with the corresponding state bar association
- Highly motivated individual capable of working in a fast paced, complex environment
- Superior written and oral communication, analytical and organizational skills
- Demonstrated broad and practical knowledge of the law and general business acumen
- Highly proficient in MS Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Must pass pre-employment screens

Preferred Qualifications:

- Bar membership in good standing
- Experience working or familiarity with professional sports teams or leagues
- Full professional fluency in the Spanish language is a plus

Generalist, with some litigation, worker’s compensation experience preferred; employment and/or business contract drafting and negotiation skills a plus

- Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends as required by deadlines and event scheduling
- Must be able to handle confidential, privileged, and/or sensitive information with care and sensitivity
- Ability to make sound decisions and exercise independent judgement and discretion with integrity and accountability
- Clearly and concisely present ideas and facts with others

Physical Requirements:

- Sitting at a desk and computer for long periods of time
- Bending, standing, reaching, kneeling, and lifting technology equipment and office materials
- Walking throughout the stadium facility, sometimes for an extended period of time

Work Environment:

This job operates primarily in a professional office setting. The role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The job may require travel to off-site events.
