Associate Counsel
Rockville, MD Full-Time Associate Counsel Position with **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** Summary: - **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** (THL) is a global nonprofit dedicated to ending the abuse of animals raised for food. - THL is a Top Charity rated by Animal Charity Evaluators and has a staff of over 100 individuals dispersed worldwide. - The organization values a high-energy culture of teamwork and mission-driven problem solving. - The position of Associate Counsel involves identifying and mitigating risks to the organization to ensure effective advocacy for animals raised for food. - This is a full-time, remote position with occasional domestic travel. - Applicants must reside in the United States and have work authorization in the country. - The application deadline is March 1st, 2024. - The compensation range for this role is $88,597 - $103,363 USD. Responsibilities: - Advise on employment matters, both domestically and internationally, including state and federal compliance, disciplinary actions, investigations, and employee separations. - Stay updated on new laws and regulations affecting employment law and provide strategic advice to THL's Legal and People teams. - Draft employee-facing policies and enhance THL's processes and templates. - Negotiate, draft, and review contracts and external communications. - Develop and manage compliance processes for THL's global workforce, including researching and advising on international privacy, employment, and labor laws. - Support resolution of agency claims and employment litigation matters. - Design and present training on employment law matters. - Review and make recommendations for improvement of HR policies and procedures. - Develop internal policies and manage data privacy and information security matters. - Conduct legal research and write memoranda as needed. - Establish and maintain relationships with pro bono attorneys and outside counsel. - Serve as a business partner to the organization. - Other duties as assigned. Required Skills: - Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school. - License to practice law and member in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction. - At least four years of full-time legal experience practicing with a law firm or as in-house counsel. - Significant employment law experience partnering with business, HR, and legal stakeholders. - Excellent oral and written communication skills. - Careful attention to detail. - Solid legal research and analysis skills. - Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities. - Ability to demonstrate initiative and propose solutions objectively. - Comfort working remotely and in a rapidly growing organization. - Dedication to **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***'s mission.
