Role Overview

Tesla, a leader in the renewable energy industry, is seeking a Sr. Counsel to support the growth of their energy business. This role will primarily focus on drafting and negotiating commercial real estate leases, licenses, and other agreements to support the North American Supercharger program. The ideal candidate will have a big-firm background, experience in the renewable energy industry, and extensive experience negotiating transactions in the renewable energy context.

Key Responsibilities

- Draft and negotiate real estate lease and license agreements for Supercharger stations and other commercial agreements to support the Supercharger program
- Act as lead counsel in purchase and sale transactions
- Manage and review ancillary real estate documents
- Resolve disputes with landlords, contractors, tenants, and subtenants
- Review regulatory developments and provide legal advice on electric vehicle charging and electricity supply
- Ensure legal and contractual compliance for Supercharger locations
- Provide legal support during planning and project approval processes
- Draft and update customer-facing terms and policies
- Work closely with the business team to assess and advise on legal and business risks

Requirements

- J.D. with excellent academic credentials and top tier law firm experience
- Bar admission in the jurisdiction where you will be based, or ability to register as in-house counsel
- 8-10 years of legal experience, including substantial experience in commercial real estate and handling commercial leasing and related matters
- Commercial contracts and/or product counsel experience preferred
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong ability to work independently and on teams with diverse personalities and skill levels
- Creative problem solver with a willingness to learn and try new approaches
- Ability to work in a scrappy environment
- Sound and practical business judgment

Expected Compensation

$172,000-$431,640/annual salary cash and stock awards benefits
