Southwestern Minnesota Legal Assistant: Assisting Low-Income Immigrants

Responsibilities:

- Provide immigration legal assistance to low-income immigrant survivors of domestic violence
- Perform administrative duties such as checking mail, scanning documents, writing letters, and answering phones
- Screen new clients and communicate with attorneys, co-workers, and clients
- Travel regularly to Southwestern Minnesota for office hours and community events
- Work closely with domestic violence advocates and hold office hours with partner organizations
- Envisioned to become a Department of Justice (DOJ) accredited representative

Requirements:

- Paralegal experience, legal receptionist or legal secretary preferred
- Experience in advocating for immigrants and immigrant survivors preferred
- Fluency in Spanish required
- Proficient in Microsoft programs and experience with case management preferred
- Detail-oriented, service-oriented, organized, and able to meet deadlines
- Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills
- Must have a driver's license, car, and ability to travel to/in Southwestern Minnesota

Position Details:

- Based in Worthington, MN or St. Paul, MN with regular travel to Southwestern Minnesota
- Full-time position, 4-5 days per week
- Annual compensation range of $35,000-$42,500 depending on experience

Qualifications:

- Experience in a legal setting preferred
- Experience working with diverse populations and advocating for immigrants preferred
- Fluent in Spanish
- Proficient in Microsoft programs and experience with case management preferred
