## Job Opportunity: General Law Unit Staff Attorney at Atlanta Legal Aid Society

Atlanta Legal Aid Society (“Legal Aid”) is seeking a Staff Attorney for its General Law Unit located in downtown Atlanta. Our non-profit law firm represents low-income people in a variety of civil legal matters including family, housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law. The General Law Unit staff currently consists of a managing attorney, 3 staff attorneys, 2 paralegals, and 1 part-time support staff.

**Responsibilities**
- Handle a mixed caseload (housing, consumer, public benefits, education and health law) using a variety of methods including:
- Community education
- Advice and referral
- Brief service
- Transactional work
- Negotiation
- Mediation
- Litigation
- Participate in task forces, committees, social service organizations, and local bar associations.

**Qualifications**
- Georgia bar license or eligibility to sit for the next exam
- Strong work ethic
- Excellent legal writing and oral advocacy skills
- Good communication and listening skills
- Ability to work in a team and alone
- Adaptability
- Appreciation of diversity
- Ability to balance compassion and pragmatism
- Demonstrated commitment to public service
- Participation in law school clinics and trial advocacy courses
- Familiarity with poverty law
- Previous work with low-income people
- Proficiency in languages other than English is highly valued

**Salary and Benefits**
- Salary is $55,000 depending on experience
- Salaries increase annually based on a salary scale
