Mears Holdings, LLC, A Quanta Services Company is hiring a Director of Risk & Associate General Counsel to provide guidance, direction, and assistance on a wide variety of legal matters, with a focus on Auto General Liability and Workers’ Compensation (AGL & WC) risk and claims management, contract negotiation, compliance issues, transactions, employment and labor issues, internal investigations, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), and insured and non-insured litigation.

The successful candidate will have a Juris Doctorate granted by an ABA accredited law school and a current license to practice law. At least 5 years of experience as in-house counsel is preferred, as is experience in the construction and/or energy industry and experience with commercial risk and claims, either in-house or as defense counsel.

The Director of Risk & Associate General Counsel will need to have excellent written and verbal communication, strong interpersonal and negotiation skills, be analytical and detail oriented, have basic computer skills, and ability to manage and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.

## Director of Risk & Associate General Counsel

Mears Holdings, LLC, A Quanta Services Company is looking to hire a Director of Risk & Associate General Counsel to provide guidance, direction, and assistance on a wide variety of legal matters. This position will be based in Lenexa, KS 66219.

**Responsibilities:**
- Provide guidance, direction, and assistance on a wide variety of legal matters, with a focus on Auto General Liability and Workers’ Compensation (AGL & WC) risk and claims management, contract negotiation, compliance issues, transactions, employment and labor issues, internal investigations, regulatory (e.g., OSHA), and insured and non-insured litigation.
- Manage outside counsel for company litigation from inception to trial, as well as day-to-day case management.
- Lead post-incident and post-accident investigations from time of event through corrective action discussions.
- Investigate, research, and provide actionable legal advice concerning a broad range of issues and circumstances which arise in the company’s day-to-day business, with an emphasis on third-party liability exposure for commercial automobile and general liability (AGL) and workers compensation.
- Handle requests for legal advice on novel issues, ranging in complexity level.
- Travel to various company locations, legal proceedings, and meetings as may be required. This includes on-site field locations.
- Summarize and synthesize legal issues to brief executive and field leadership on matters and to relay expectations on given matters.
- Lead short-term and long-term projects.

**Qualifications:**
- Juris Doctorate granted by an ABA accredited law school
- Current license to practice law
- At least 5 years of experience as in-house counsel is preferred
- Experience in the construction and/or energy industry is preferred
- Experience with commercial risk and claims, either in-house or as defense counsel
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
- Analytical and detail oriented
- Basic computer skills, including use of Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Acrobat Adobe, and internet research tools
- Ability to manage and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to be self-directed and exercise independent judgment
- Ability to prepare reports and to present to field and executive leaders
- Ability to manage and supervise the work of others, as needed
- Familiarity with industrial accidents and investigations, including regulatory processes and interaction with regulators
- Familiarity with workplace safety processes and procedures, including employee injuries
- Critical thinker who leads effectively
