The program has been in operation since 2000 and offers participants an in-depth overview of the United States legal system and the opportunity to concentrate in one of Gibbons’ practice areas.

**Benefits of Participating in FLIP**

The FLIP program offers German law school graduates the opportunity to become familiar with the Anglo-American legal system. Participants are supervised by Gibbons attorneys and have the opportunity to assist with research of national or international legal issues, the review and translation of foreign legal documents, and attend court hearings and internal training sessions.

**Requirements for Participation in FLIP**

To participate in the FLIP program, applicants must have successfully passed the First State Examination with an above average grade (at least “satisfactory”). Applicants must also possess strong English skills and an interest in becoming familiar with the Anglo-American legal system.

**Application Process for FLIP**

Gibbons recruits three to four referendare for a period of three to four months. Due to the large number of interested candidates, a timely application (six months prior to the desired start) is recommended. Applications should include a personal letter in English, a resume in English, copies of credentials (e.g., copy of State Examination Certificate), and a letter of recommendation, in English or German, from a member of the legal profession.
