The Superintendent of Roads is responsible for scheduling employees for the construction, maintenance, and general cleanup of Wicomico County roads including clearing of right-of-way’s, drainage work, digging of open ditches, laying of pipelines on a grade, maintenance patching, tree trimming, weed control, mowing, roadside trash collection and other road work. Assigning daily schedules; Inspecting work projects and contract jobs; Composing job estimates for construction & maintenance work; Compiling Tar & Chip, Slurry, Micro-pave, & Blacktop schedules; Compiling & implementing snow-clearing, salt spreading, & mowing routes; Interviewing and hiring roads labor & managing personnel; Training personnel for herbicide spraying, safety procedures, personal protection equipment, tree & limb trimming, and mowing safety; Maintaining annual schedule of labor rates & equipment costs; Assisting with the annual budget; Operating heavy equipment as needed; Updating information systems and retaining roadway design documents; Recommending annual road construction; and Performing related work as required.
