Ultimately, we want to be an organization where people enjoy coming to work and take pride in our efforts to help patients.SUMMARY:The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. \u00A0JOB DESCRIPTION/PROJECT:BioMarin Government Affairs is looking for an enthusiastic recent college graduate or graduate student for the summer of 2023. \u00A0The chosen candidate will work in a hybrid capacity in BioMarin\u2019s office in Washington, DC, with supervision by the Senior Director, Global Advocacy Strategy and Operations within Government Affairs.\u00A0 The candidate will have the opportunity to engage in projects led by the U.S. government affairs and policy team focused on both state and federal issues. The intern will conduct legislative research and prepare policy documents related to federal and state legislative activities which may have an impact on the pharmaceutical/biotech industry and the patients BioMarin serves.\u00A0 The position will also provide an opportunity to coordinate an educational event for policymakers and/or patient advocates.\u00A0 Further, the intern will support programming to identify and build and strengthen relationships with patient advocacy groups and other allies.This internship will provide the chosen candidate an opportunity to learn about healthcare policy related to the biopharmaceutical sector and the rare disease community.\u00A0 The position will provide insight into the role state and federal legislatures and administrations play in healthcare delivery and access. Position Description: Provide support for projects identified by federal and state government affairs team members Conduct legislative research and draft policy documents on key federal and state legislative priorities Identify potential allies with whom BioMarin can build partnerships on policy issues of mutual interest Plan and coordinate an educational event for state or federal policymakers (e.g., briefing, roundtable) and/or patient advocates on policy issues that have an impact on access to treatments for rare and genetic conditions Develop materials to support a grassroots network of advocates engaged in state policy matters (e.g., draft educational materials, social media postings) Interact virtually with internal stakeholders regarding pertinent federal and state legislative initiatives Participate virtually in meetings with allies and policymakers in collaboration with supervisor or other government affairs team members; prepare summaries of these interactions; draft correspondence Maintain contact information for key policymakers Meet requirements for development of a final report related to activities performed over the course of the internship\u00A0Required Skills: Strong research skills Excellent organizational and time management skills, and discipline to work virtually Strong communication, written, and analytical skills Competence in using Microsoft Office programs required - Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint. Empathy for people living with rare and genetic disorders\u00A0Qualifications/Eligibility: Recent College graduate within 1 year of the start of the program with a Bachelor\u2019s Degree or a Graduate student desired with an interest in learning more about patient advocacy and healthcare, biopharmaceutical, and rare and genetic disease policy.
