SUMMARYThe EHS&S Specialist I is an entry to mid-level function within the BioMarin Environmental Health Safety and Sustainability (EHS&S) Department. This position is specialized in providing safety, health and environmental services to a manufacturing plant and other related departments in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry. In addition, this role will serve as the EHS&S training and website coordinator and communications lead.\u00A0The EHS&S Specialist I will primarily function as a business partner to the manufacturing department, with an emphasis on the following services: comprehensive risk assessments & JHA\u2019s, stakeholder engagement, waste management, regulatory compliance support, incident management ticket support, monthly safety assessment support and industrial ergonomics. At the discretion of the EHS&S Manager, the EHS&S Specialist I may also support other department initiatives such as training oversight, safety metrics reporting, communications and sustainability programs. RESPONSIBILITIESBusiness relationship manager (\u201CBRM\u201D) for manufacturing operations, providing all manner of EHS&S support services, including: routine risk management services (e.g. JHA\u2019s, assessments & routine safety, health & environment walkthroughs), 1x1\u2019s with stakeholder leads and attendance at stakeholder all-hands meetings, training/program development, training delivery, INTELEX incident management system support, waste management program support, risk reduction/continuous improvement project support, monthly metrics and newsletter preparation/delivery and supporting numerous ad hoc inquiries from stakeholders.Assists with providing comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of safety responsibilities, regulations, procedures, and business practices for biopharmaceutical manufacturing operations.Provide support for Vector Safety Committee by assisting the Committee Chair with meeting coordination, action tracking and EHS&S dialogue. Lead the management and coordination for all EHS&S trainings including delivery of the Lead with Safety ProgramMaintain the EHS&S department\u2019s company website (BioWeb)Develop and draft communication slides with various EHS&S related content for Site wide distributionProvide support to Ergonomics program subject matter expert with issues in manufacturing, office and industrial workspaces.Support Novato site EHS&S Environmental program Lead, to prepare for agency inspections and close action items/observations.Support ongoing ISO 14001 and 45001 certification maintenance efforts for the Novato Make, Assess, Release departments Review of new or proposed changes to site facilities, equipment, materials or operations to determine all necessary EHS&S requirements are addressed.Provide knowledge of safety responsibilities, regulations, procedures, and business practices for biopharmaceutical plant and/or laboratory operations.Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor.\u00A0EXPERIENCERequired Skills:1-3 years working in EHS&S, preferably in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.Prior experience with the following types of software systems: EHS-eLMS, accident/incident reporting and computerized maintenance management.Requires comprehensive understanding of office software including: MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio, Outlook, Zoom, etc.Requires comprehensive and in-depth knowledge of EHS&S responsibilities, regulations, procedures, and business practices.Strong public speaking skills to present at stakeholder, all-hands meetings and training sessionsExcellent oral and written communication skills.\u00A0Desired Skills:Desired personal competencies related to performance in this role:Customer Focus: Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvements in products and services; establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect\u00A0 Planning: Sets objectives/goals; Breaks down work into the process steps; Develops schedules and task/staff assignments; accurately scopes out length and difficulty of tasks and projects. Familiarity with EHS&S regulationsFamiliarity with GxP regulations\u00A0EDUCATIONUndergraduate degree, preferably in a science or engineering related field (Desirable).Professional certification such as CIH, CSP, CHMM, etc. (Desirable)CONTACTSThe EHS&S Specialist I works directly within the EHS&S Department. The EHS&S Specialist I will also work directly and indirectly with key stakeholders in GxP groups, such as manufacturing, building maintenance, plant maintenance, metrology, QC and materials management. Other stakeholders include engineering, security and capital projects personnel. The EHS&S Specialist I will also work directly with external consultants, contractors and vendors.
