BioMarin’s Research & Development group is responsible for everything from research and discovery to post-market clinical development. Research & Development involves all bench and clinical research and the associated groups that support those endeavors. Come join our team and make a meaningful impact on patients’ lives.The Scientific Communication & Exchange (SCE) Team plays a critical role in maintaining and building BioMarin’s credibility and leadership within the fields of science, medicine, and biotechnology; and in demonstrating the value of our (investigational) therapies to patient communities and healthcare systems. Vital contributions include but are not limited to: Bringing clarity to complex data sets without over-simplification or over-interpretation Developing educational content to ensure internal alignment and comprehension of key findings, and to support the needs of field MSLs and Medical Information needs Maintaining up-to-date scientific messaging repositories that enable 1) enterprise-wide utilization of consistent messaging and references, and 2) comprehensive storylines that explicitly acknowledge and build upon previously disseminated data Recommending data dissemination plans that include strategically identified submission targets, timing, contributors, audiences, and content informed by comprehensive gap analyses Executing against endorsed data dissemination plans by deploying direct or managed expertise in medical writing, statistical analysis, literature analysis, graphic design, copy editing, and presentation skills Producing high-quality manuscripts, posters, abstracts, congress cards, publication summaries, presentations, and trainings Ensuring accuracy and consistency in cross-functional, externally facing scientific and medical messaging Performing all activities in a manner compliant with BioMarin best practices and through the use of non-promotional, evidence-based scientific andeducational programs that shape the market and close knowledge gapsThe Executive Director (ED) of SCE will provide executive-level insights and leadership to SCE team members,  to ensure a consistent application of methodological approaches across programs, applying judgement to determine where program-specific approaches are warranted. While program leads within SCE will maintain program-specific foci, the ED will be accountable for infusing the overall SCE strategy with a portfolio view and with insights driven by an understanding of evolving, broader business needs. Similarly, through their role as a member of the Global Medical Affairs Leadership Team (GMAF LT), the ED will act as an advocate for SCE to ensure appropriate share of voice in strategic program decision making.Background: Life Sciences background preferred (MD, PharmD, PhD or equivalent)5 years of experience in medical communications and/or field medical engagementGlobal or multiple geographies experience preferredThe ED is expected to exhibit mastery-level competence in medical core competencies, including communication, leadership, strategy planning and problem solving. For example: Leader that can motivate and engage teams at all levels providing vision and clear communication on expectations; models a respectful coaching culture within SCE, GMAF and across BMRNActively represents and encourages open, honest, and clear communication across teams and functions; ability to message at all levelsHolds teams accountable for deliverables by creating a shared sense of ownership for success; encourages risk identification and mitigation strategiesIdentifies internal and external best practices, trends, developments, or alternative approaches that can be leveraged to achieve ominichannel approach for impactful scientific engagement across the HCS; focuses on excellence in how we executeAs a member of the GMAF LT communicates and reinforces purpose and links between GMAF activities and BioMarin corporate strategy and financial goals Works with GMAF LT to develop goals, priorities, strong communication paths; supports the development of teams across GMAF with the strength and confidence to contribute proactively to BMRN successUnderstands the scope of the problem and/or solution, as well as the span of control for the individual / team and advises appropriate course of action  Recognizes cross-functional, company-wide, or vendor-based impact of issues and opportunities and appropriately considers input and implications in solution development; guides teams to manage and partner effectively with vendors and internal stakeholdersEstablishes a team focus on excellence in customer service and commitment to high quality work and responsiveness; ensures teams are skilled in management of expectations and prioritization    Provides oversight to team leads to manage project trade-offs among scope, timelines, budget/resources, and quality and drive teams toward accountability  PLEASE NOTE: Absent a Medical or Religious reason that prohibits vaccinations, all our incoming employees must be vaccinated for COVID-19.
