**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***’s (INL) Advanced Fuel Manufacturing and Development group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Nuclear Facility Research Engineer.

Our team works an on-site 4x10 schedule located at our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

The research professional supports research, development, and analysis of nuclear fuels and materials within one or more of the following technical areas: characterization, fabrication, sample preparation, instrument development, process development, irradiation experiment design, and irradiation experiment assembly.

Functions:

Actively explores research and funding opportunities, supports preparation of research proposals, and serves as named principal investigator or co-investigator. Develops novel approaches to solve meaningful challenges in the field of nuclear fuel materials
Responsible to assist and lead in the development and use of processes to fabricate a wide range of nuclear fuels and materials experiments. This includes the synthesis and production of fuel feedstock in the desired form (metal or ceramic of the actinide elements, or a combination of both); selection and development of fabrication processes for fuel (casting, atomizing, extrusion, mixing, pressing, sintering, etc.) and adjacent materials (e.g. cladding, bonding materials, fuel additives, etc.); leading or helping to establish fuel specifications and quality requirements; obtaining initial characterization data; and documenting activities for quality and quality inspections
Address practical matters, as directed, such as coordinating material movements, coordinating support organization fabrications and quality inspections, and establishing and efficient multi-facility process paths
Support effective project planning by accurately estimating required time and/or other resources for assigned work; adhering to a defined schedule; and identifying anticipated excursions before they manifest
Lead in the authorship of concluding reports and journal papers as permitted by work scope
Manage and may perform all tasks within scope, manage cost and schedule, identify problems and complications attributed to working within diverse and complex scope, and may lead in the implementation of process improvements
Perform project leadership responsibilities of moderate scope, coordinating the work of several colleagues and fostering effective communication within the team and with applicable interfaces
Supplies to the development of safety documentation, and reviews work authorizing documents to ensure compliance with lab wide procedures and policies

 

 

','!*!Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree and 2 yrs. Experience or Master’s Degree and 1 yrs. experience or PhD. Degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or other technical, scientific and/or engineering degree is required
Bachelor's Degree and 5 yrs. Experience or Master’s Degree and 3 yrs. experience or PhD. Degree and 2 yrs. Experience in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering or other technical, scientific and/or engineering degree is required
This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship

Preferred Requirements:

Must have a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental science, theories and application needs such that the invoked approaches constitute technical standard methodologies
Must have a sound knowledge of other related science or technical subject areas with the ability to uses this knowledge to support the successful execution of assigned work and the development of new work
Must have effective collaboration and communication skills to organize cross functional teams to meet project requirements

Job Information:

Salary Grade PR0200 - 210 ($93,492 - $154,212) PR0300 -220 ($107,520 - $177,336)
