JOB OVERVIEW

A full time Research Assistant position is available in the laboratory of Chen Gao, PhD in the Department of Pharmacology & Systems Physiology at **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** College of Medicine.  Dr. Gao's laboratory focuses on understanding the underlying molecular mechanism associated with cardiometabolic diseases. The laboratory utilizes multidisciplinary approaches including genetically modified mouse models as well as cell culture models, combined with state-of-art pathophysiology measurements, genomic and epigenomic approaches, and molecular/biochemistry techniques. The current research projects in Dr. Gao lab includes RNA metabolism in cardiac remodeling, and BCAA mediated metabolic regulation in the pathogenesis of heart failure and metabolic disorders.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Assist in animal colony management and animal husbandry. *Perform animal handling and physiology analysis, including I.P injection, I.v injection, tissue and blood collection as well as genotyping. *Interpret data and assist in judging validity of data. May perform statistical and graphical analysis of data. *Perform basic laboratory techniques, including DNA extraction, DNA gel electrophoresis, and chemical solution preparation. *Responsible for maintaining animal and tissue sample inventory. *Assist in basic lab maintenance and functions, including record keeping, data acquisition, reagent preparation and purchasing of lab supplies. *Maintain the lab and equipment in working order. Identify, arrange and coordinate repairs when necessary. *Perform related duties based on lab need. This job description can be changed at any time.
 
REQUIRED EDUCATION
*Bachelor's Degree in Biology or related field. *Five (5) years of relevant work experience and/or other specialized training can be used in lieu of education requirement.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
Related work experience in rodent models and physiology is ideal.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
