ABOUT THE UC CORRECTIONS INSTITUTE
**MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW*** Corrections Institute (UCCI) is dedicated to supporting corrections agencies worldwide in their efforts to implement evidence-based practices in offender rehabilitation. UCCI conducts applied research in corrections and translates research into practice through the development of new products and services, training and technical assistance, and program evaluation.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
The postdoctoral researcher selected for this opportunity will conduct mentored research under Dr. Jamie Newsome. Candidates will have opportunities to contribute to multiple research projects related to the use of evidence-based practices in corrections, but the primary assignment will be to a study funded by the National Institute of Justice to evaluate the effectiveness of a cognitive behavioral intervention to promote successful reentry after a period of incarceration. The study will include a randomized controlled trial in two state prisons, a comprehensive process evaluation, an extensive follow-up for three years after participants are released from prison, and a cost-benefit analysis. The postdoctoral researcher will work closely with the principal investigator and other members of the research team to collect and analyze data, interpret quantitative findings, prepare scholarly articles, and present findings to internal and external audiences of scholars and practitioners. This is a 12-month renewable appointment.

JOB OVERVIEW
Assist the Principal Investigator in a given department or field.  The incumbent will conduct research and/or analyze research data and ensure that all experiments are appropriately conducted following the policies and procedures of **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. Positions are temporary appointments as a research trainee.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
*Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology. *Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research. *Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results. *Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing. *Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise. *Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed. *May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff. *Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities.  *Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well.  *Perform related duties based on departmental need. REQUIRED EDUCATION
Doctoral Degree in the appropriate field or discipline, or the recognized terminal degree, or the equivalent foreign equivalent.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
May require experience with specialized software programs. 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS CONSIDERED
*PhD from an accredited institution of higher education in Criminal Justice or related discipline *In-depth knowledge of evidence-based practices in corrections *Demonstrated research experience *Demonstrated data management and analysis experience (R, SPSS, Excel, MPlus, and/or Stata) *Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills *Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team *Ability to regularly travel within the state (approximately one week per month) *Willingness to work inside state prisons and directly with offender populations
