General Description of Position:
The Assistant Director will be the primary academic advisor for up to 80 participants of the TRIO Student Support Services program. The Assistant Director will monitor participants’ academic progress, plan, schedule, and facilitate meetings and events with TRIO SSS participants, and provide feedback as it relates to the progress and retention of the TRIO Student Support Services program on the Indianapolis campus

Demonstrate a strong customer service and student advocacy through a positive attitude of approachability, adaptability, strong problem-solving and desire to identify and support student success.
Engage in behaviors that create an inclusive environment, in which all people are valued and supported.
Go beyond the easiest or surface answer for a student and get to the root cause of the problem, question, or issue to solve it as quickly and professionally as possible.
Meet with up to 80 assigned participants to mentor and assist them in identifying academic, financial, and career needs, and develop necessary academic success plans throughout the academic term.
Identify, monitor, and document progress of up to 80 program participants throughout their time in TRIO Student Support Services.
Administer, interpret, and apply various career, academic skills, and personality inventories for participants.
Co-develop and lead the
Summer Institute
and
Winter Institute,
which are designed to provide participants with in-depth counseling in financial aid & literacy, academic skills development, career advising, and general student success practices.
Co-develop and lead the annual
TRIO Day for Graduates
event during the spring semester.
Make presentations to various faculty, staff, and student groups promoting the TRIO Student Support Services program.
Compile data for and complete all applicable reports for continuance of SSS grant as directed by Program Director.
Assist grant team in grant writing during grant renewal periods.
Participate in professional development trainings and workshops necessary to carry out duties.
Attend related local, state, and/or regional conferences and training programs as outlined in the grant.
Other duties logically associated with position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Student Personnel, Guidance, Education, or a related field.
Knowledge of tutor training resources and programs, and academic, career and personal testing instruments.
Knowledge of, and ability to work with, the academic, career, and financial needs of first-generation & low-income students, as well as students with disabilities.
Experience in federal educational projects or student personnel work requiring evaluation and documentation procedures.
Knowledge of and experience in relating to the academic, social, economic, and cultural needs of first-generation & low-income students, as well as students with disabilities.
Good communication skills and basic computer skills preferred.
