General Description of Position:
The Assistant Vice President for Nursing (AVPN) has administrative oversight of the statewide associate of science and practical nursing programs. The AVPN is responsible for coordinating the overall development of the College’s nursing programs in collaboration with deans, chairs, faculty, vice chancellors and other academic administrators. The AVPN coordinates and oversees various curriculum development and related processes for nursing programs. Additionally, the AVPN represents Academic Affairs and Workforce Alignment on various College committees and taskforces; represents the College to various external funding and regulatory agencies; and completes duties required by annual work plans and special projects. The AVPN provides a strategic view of the College’s nursing education mission, identifies relevant needs and trends, supports the College mission and advocates for practical and associate degree nursing in Indiana.
Major Responsibilities:
Responsible for the overall administration of the associate of science and practical nursing programs which includes setting the strategic vision for the nursing programs. Collaborates with campus nursing deans in coordination of operations at individual learning sites.
Represents the College with accrediting and regulatory bodies; completes all required submissions and acts as a primary point of contact at the College for the accrediting and regulatory bodies.
Maintains currency in the discipline, follows trends, communicates, and develops strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Nursing Executive Council (NEC), nursing faculty, chairs, deans, and college administration.
Oversees the Director of Quality Improvement (DQI) role and provides guidance on coordination and monitoring the Systematic Plan of Evaluation and quality improvement initiatives.
Reviews campus outcomes data and aggregate program and statewide data.
Collaborates with the DQI, nursing deans, and faculty in analysis of data and development of site-specific and total program quality improvement initiatives. Participates in the Nursing Executive Council and Nursing Curriculum Committee.
Supports development of the annual college-wide nursing faculty meeting.
Serves as liaison to Campus Academic Officer Committee (CAOC).
Represents Ivy Tech with university partners for transfer and concurrent admission partnerships.
Engages the Nursing Curriculum Committee and individual nursing deans, chairs, and other faculty to plan for curriculum development, modifications, and deletions; set priorities for resource needs; and provide program analysis.
Ensures linkage of programs and curricula to needs of applicable healthcare sector(s) and current and future workforce needs.
Facilitates maintenance of relevant curriculum appropriate to the college mission, strategic plan, and programmatic philosophy.
Identify, prioritize, and provide input into system level budgets consistent with college policy and sound financial management principles.
Participate in development initiatives to diversify revenue sources to support program improvement and special projects.
Mentors nursing deans and serves as a resource for deans, chairs, and faculty.
Participates throughout the entire interview process for open nursing dean positions with weighted input regarding final selection.
Develops, in collaboration with deans of nursing and other appropriate campus academic and human resources staff, disciplinary corrective action plans for full and part time nursing faculty.
Monitors and partners with nursing deans to make decisions regarding program enrollment and expansion.
Collaborates with campus academic officer in completion of annual performance appraisals for the nursing deans.
Promotes professional development for nursing faculty, chairs, and deans.
Partners with the Vice President for Healthcare, to communicate information regarding nursing programs.
Actively advocates for ASN and PN nursing in Indiana.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree in Nursing from a regionally accredited institution is required.

Must be a Registered Nurse licensed in Indiana, with a minimum of five years of experience in nursing education and 3 to 5 years of related administrative work experience.
Must possess excellent interpersonal, oral, & written communication skills.
Must demonstrate the ability to promote an inclusive environment that reflects the broad diversity and backgrounds represented by our students and employees and which every individual feels respected and valued.
Must have the ability and willingness to complete frequent travel throughout Indiana.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Doctoral degree is highly preferred.
